Happy Halloween!

This year's costume I became the "Dragon of Dojima" himself, Kiryu Kazuma, and Corey was the "Mad Dog of Shimano," Goro Majima. Both characters from the Yakuza series.

I dusted off my 3D printer and made Majima's Demonfire Daggers, and I think they came out okay.

We really like this series, as it has a super serious storyline, but the game itself has such silly side quests and laugh out loud dialogue.

Highly recommend the game, so check it out if you can.

So back in 2021 I was hired by the Attorney General's Office in the State of Maine to create a recruitment video for The Civil Rights Team Project. This video would be a supplemental, optional program that kids all throughout the state of Maine could participate in if they wanted to. When I was in highschool, the Civil Rights Team was an invaluable resource for me, and helped me feel not so alone.

The video did well, and was shown to students without incident. There's two versions- this one, and a shortened one for younger children.

Nobody seemed to have any issues with it, until NOW apparently. There was recently a WGME article that said that Republican lawmakers wanted it removed because it was too graphic and crossed a line.

The article makes no mention of me, nor names any of the lawmakers that want the video removed.

If you ask me, this is just another goofy attempt by Republicans to distract people because they don't have any real policies aside from making life harder for minorities and crying victim when called out on their bigotry. They want to hijack the messaging on social issues bc they have NOTHING outside of the culture war.

I stand proudly by this video and its message, and find it RICH that the same people claiming to care so much about protecting kids, worship an orange child predator themselves. GOP? Guardians of Pedos.

Anyhow I'm sharing this again now, because I feel like this message is needed more than ever in the times we live in. Don't let these freaks decide the framing on these issues. Stand firm and hold strong together.

This video was made over the weekend, and I am so grateful for such AWESOME friends that were willing to help me with this video and be on camera. It meant the world to me to have such a warm reception to my artwork and everyone's compliments were so kind 😭❤️

I tried my best to include everyone amongst the volunteers, but it was a whirlwind of a weekend, and I sometimes forgot to get footage of folks while I had them. Day 10 Hong Kong

Our last day in Hong Kong.

We spent essentially all morning at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, and I must have taken hundreds of pictures 😆 Tons of gorgeous ceramics, calligraphy, and even ornate snuff bottles. Incredible works collected by some very dedicated people. ❤️

It was hectic getting back to the airport, and I'm sad to leave and get back to the states. I feel like this vacation was very much needed, so I'm looking forward to coming back some day.

Day 9 Hong Kong

***We are all okay and safe***

Today's our last full day in Hong Kong, and it was...rough. The day started out well, full breakfast at Red Tea Cafe, and then we made our way to hike up Lion Rock Peak. We made sure to bring water, snacks, and bug spray. On the way up, we met some friendly fellow hikers, and gave each other encouragement.

However, we greatly underestimated how hot it was, and after getting to the top, made a handful of unlucky choices, and ran out of water. It got really scary for a little while when I started feeling woozy. I think we all got a bit of heatstroke and dehydration. 😵‍💫

Luckily we managed to find some locals that Charlie was able to understand and found our way out to safety. With the blazing sun and the exhaustion from the hike/elevation, I think I'm done with hiking for a long time.

After getting back to the hotel, we decided to rest, and then treat ourselves with going to an Izakaya for skewers.

Day 8 Hong Kong

***Leaving the audio in this time, but it IS noisy and loud***

Today was a lot! We finally got dim sum, I feel like everyone kept mentioning it, but we finally got it, which was an interesting experience. Even though it was similar to American dim sum, it just felt so much more chaotic here. But still very tasty 😋

We made our way back to Kowloon Park, and every Sunday in Kung Fu Corner, they have some performances- weather permitting. I really love how communal it all felt, with elderly folk also taking part in the performances ❤️

We needed to kill some time before dinner, so we went inside this Cat Cafe we had been seeing. It was great finally getting to experience one that wasn't run by a psychopath. 💀

While looking for the Yakiniku restaurant, we came across an awesome arcade, where Corey and I played some games, (the guys there were VERY locked in) and afterwards I found my new FAVORITE shop - Toca Loca. It's a store filled with awesome vinyl figures, and I picked one up! I think ordering it from the states would've quadrupled it's price 😵‍💫

As we made our way back, we saw a nice performance on the side of the road, and I then got this piece of strawberry watermelon cake I had noticed in an ad from Lifetastic Patisserie. 🤤

Day 7 Hong Kong

What a day. We started off getting breakfast, and made our way to this electronics mall, where Molly found me a cool art book, and Corey got me an awesome new mouse.

Did a bit of exploring, and we found ourselves on Toy Street, where I saw a collectible Gundam bike and then subsequently BOUGHT a collectible Gundam bike lol.

We strolled through the park a little bit, but after things started to get busier, we went back to the hotel to rest, and gathered the energy to go to the Bruce Lee memorial statue.

Spoiler- it was great!

Corey and I had to branch off on our own because we had dinner reservations at The Magic table. It was great! Loved the atmosphere and the food was very good. It was probably the most expensive meal of my life 😭 But I think everyone should experience a meal like that at least once.

Much later, we dragged ourselves back to the hotel room. I tried my best to get a Wong Kar Wai Style shot, but it was wonky. Oh well. Bed time now.

Day 6 Hong Kong

I feel like each day we wind up doing so many things and seeing so much stuff, it's hard to remember what exactly happened today 😅 I definitely don't have enough space to post everything.

Corey and I started the day off by visiting the Heritage museum, which was located in Kowloon Park, and there was plenty of damage still, with downed trees. Nevertheless, the staff was super cool and ushered us into the museum (free of charge!) The artifacts here were incredibly cool, and it's insane to think of how old some of them are.

We spent most of the day in Mong Kok though, visiting a handful of malls, and checking out shops- including a reptile shop, a flower market, and Linlee, a drink shop that @connyishungry recommended! It came with a free rubber duck ❤️🦆

We later got some food, and then I went and got a foot massage 😅

All in all, a very fun day. ✨

Day 5 Hong Kong

Today was a pretty jam packed day. The city was bustling as workers all around were taking care of the mess left behind by the Typhoon. Trees were down, and some stuff was broken, so at times we had to find different paths.

Our original plan was to check out these gardens, but it was closed. So we ended up checking out this mall and it had a TON of stuff in it. 9 floors- with exhibits, gardens, shops, and restaurants. Very neat. We found a fun video game exhibit- RESTART: Beyond Gaming Exhibition.

From there, we moseyed a bit and had lunch at an apothecary cafe, and then walked over to the remnants of the Kowloon Walled City, a place that I remember growing up and seeing in movies. They had built replicas of what it was like for folks living there, and the conditions were pretty rough.

Later that night, we found out that the mall near our hotel had a movie theater, so we saw the new Chainsaw Man movie, and scored some free posters. I really liked it, and checked off a thing on my bucket list: seeing a movie at the theater in a foreign country.

Now it's my bedtime, but I'm looking forward to more adventures tomorrow. 😊

Day 4 Hong Kong

We survived the Typhoon. Apparently it was a CAT10, and I was pretty blissfully unaware going into it. Luckily nothing major happened immediately around us, and it was just a rainstorm from my hotel window. I saw some pretty gnarly footage on the news, and it felt pretty surreal to think that I was fairly close to it.

Folks are largely back in business, by the evening lots of shops and stuff were open-though from what I've seen online, some shops never closed at all. Wild.

Losing a day was frustrating, but I'm excited to do some exploring and experiencing more of the city.

Day 3 Hong Kong

Admittedly, we didn't do much today. We visited a handful of shops, and while it was pretty hot, there was an air of stress and rushing to buy stuff. Shops closed up, and windows were taped.

There was an advisory about the Typhoon, and we were told to hunker down in our rooms as everything goes down. SO, we stocked up on snacks. I think we'll be okay with this, but it's my first Typhoon! And it's supposed to be a Cat 5, so I just wanted to be prepared.

Day 2 Hong Kong

Phew, today was pretty warm! Luckily no rain today, so we tried to make use of the good weather, but it was like 90 degrees out, and 90% humidity 😭

We visited the top of Victoria Peak, riding up the STEEPEST tram I've ever been on, and managed to snap some pictures from the top. The view was gorgeous, and my pictures can't do it justice.

From there, we went to visit the nearby tea museum, where I saw some really interesting ceramics and teas. I love how much history the city has, and how much effort is put in to remember it.

We made our way through the Aviary to get to the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens and saw some great animals. I am honestly so impressed that we got to see all of the critters for free.

By this point I was drenched in sweat, and so, we headed back to our hotel and got a ridiculous amount of hot pot. 😋

Day 1 Hong Kong

We made it! After a 14 1/2 flight, we got to Hong Kong at like, 4 am. It took some time but we got to our hotel and got to explore a bit. It's been raining a TON (apparently a typhoon is supposed to hit on Wednesday 😭)

The city has been great so far, we stumbled upon a tribute to different comic artists, and then walked through Kowloon Park. Then we saw The Dolphin Square area, and after food, we came back to see the Light Show.

All in all, great, even despite the heavy rain.

Time to show you how the sausage is made lol.

Here's some photos I took of the process of making my mural- some of it was pretty messy and involved painting and re-painting stuff. At times it looks super WONKY, but I wanted you to see it, warts and all.

There were moments where I was incredibly anxious that I wouldn't finish before the deadline, and worried that I bit off more than I could chew. 😔

It was an incredibly tough project at times, especially when I lost my Grandma. I really wished she could've seen it. I had this... notion that she'd be around to go to the reception and I could show her all the details, but once she got really, really sick, I knew it wasn't going to happen.

But this mural will hopefully be around for a long time, and I hope that she can rest easy knowing that her legacy lives on in the art that I make. ❤️

Hello! So this is the mural project that I spent 2 months of my life working on. It took DAYS of work, on and off again with my lovely wife Corey helping me. This is for the Cambodia Town Public Art Project for the city of Lowell, and I was honored to be one of the artists chosen.

The small reception was at City Hall, where they'll be on display through the month of July, before being permanently installed at Clemente Park, where they're going to have ANOTHER reception 😊

I'm super grateful for my friends that came to support me @myriartz @tmilgrim and Kenny - (stupid Instagram crops photos in the WORST ways 😭 ) and special thank yous to @connyishungry for lending me her projector, and Mike Baker for sending me this project in the first place. ❤️

It's okay, I got better.

But legit though, the first time I had black licorice, I was terrified that I had accidentally ingested poison. It's probably the only time that a piece of candy made me cry. Lol

If you somehow feel the need to come after me because you love black licorice, it's okay. There's a second picture that conveys a heartfelt message just for you from my childhood self. ❤️

Is it just me? Is Black Licorice terrible or just misunderstood? I did see something about tricking our brains into liking disgusting things over time, which is the basis of acquired tastes, but still. Yuck.

I was a monk again this weekend, though I'm saddened that it was so soon after the last time. Again I was joined by my uncles and my brother, and again I shaved my head bald.

I'm not used to it just yet, and when I see my head- I think of my grandmother's final days, with her hair also gone- though hers was because of chemo. I spent a lot of time in the monastery thinking of her.

I think, despite how sad the occasion was, how exhausted everyone was, it was a really great time spent with family. It hurts, but I think we'll be okay. ❤️

Today I lost my Grandmother.

To be honest, it hasn't fully sunk in to me yet. I still feel as if I'll be able to call her tomorrow for our weekly Sunday evening chats. She was so kind and warm- yet incredibly resilient. She faced so much hardship in life, but was always affectionate and smiled.

One of my earliest memories was from when I was 5. I had asked her if she could read some book to me- which she replied that she couldn't - it was in English, and she didn't know how. I saw her face look sad, like she had somehow failed me. And I wish I could've told her that she gave me so much more than that-that she was always enough, and that her sacrifices for our family mattered. I just wish I had the words to tell her- because I also didn't know how. I knew that she was this amazing person with knowledge, stories, and quiet strength, but we lacked the ability to really talk about things. I think that's something I'll always regret.

Despite all that, I think she knew that she was one of my favorite people. She was always tickled when I used to watch her scale fish- mesmerized by her ability. Even in my most difficult moments, she was always understanding and patient- comforting me, or urging me to do things like go outside and explore the world.

I will always remember her gentle laugh, her warm hands, and her beautiful lullabies.

Thank you for walking me home those late nights when I was a scared little boy. Thank you for always slipping me cash in that underhanded secret way that grandmas always seem to do. Thank you for looking after my brothers and I whenever our parents were away.

Thank you for everything, Mai. I'll carry your love and smile with me always. I know you'll be reunited with Pok, so I can take comfort in that. I'll miss you forever.

So, I've lived in Boston for like -15 years, and I've never actually been to a Red Sox game. Had a blast, and was incredibly happy to experience the game with a bunch of friends- and even made a new friend with the guy that sat next to me!

Sox won 6-1, and we got to commemorate the event with these cool AAPI Year of the Snake jerseys!

So, my painting is on display at the @paoartscenter until Feb 28th, but I figured I'd show a little bit of my process and how I wound up with this result.

My friend @connyishungry sent me the Pao's Call for Artists, (Thanks Connie! ❤️🙏) and initially I wasn't sure what to do. I wanted to do an oil painting, but I hadn't touched oil paint in almost 20 years- and what's more, I wanted to try using gold leaf. So this piece is a bit experimental.

Still, art is about trying different things. One of the hardest parts of painting on a real canvas, especially coming back from digital stuff- is that there's no Ctrl Z to undo mistakes. Though, luckily oil is pretty forgiving. (Just wait a little bit and paint over your bad stuff 😅)

This painting means a lot to me- being accepted into a gallery makes me feel validated as an artist, and definitely gives me some credibility going forward. Thanks to all my friends that came out to see me and the artwork. 🙏😭

So I made two oil paintings for the Year of the Snake. One of which was accepted into the Pao Arts Center's "Serpentine Celebrations: Mural and Gallery Exhibit" which opens up this Sunday! (Feb 9th) I'm highly honored to have my work shown there, and am super excited to have folks see it.

This painting didn't get chosen, but I still wanted to share it, as I really like it. It's a Southeast Asian take on Medusa. She's an apsara, and I've always found them hauntingly beautiful.

The snakes are based off the Cambodian Kukri snakes, and looking them up, I found them to be rather cute. ❤️

Anyhow, this painting is for sale, though I have gotten attached to it, so it'd have to be a really good offer lol.

Today, my Mother in law passed away.

We knew it was coming- she'd been sick for a handful of months now. She told us about a week before our wedding party- but told us that she wouldn't miss it for anything- not even her impending death.

I don't think I've ever encountered someone who so uniquely fit the phrase 'marches to the beat of their own drum' like she did. She was nomadic and chaotic- planning around her was like planning around a tornado. We would never know where we'd end up when we went adventuring with her.

In spite of all the frustrations we had- differences in beliefs, politics, and whatnot, I know that her heart was in the right place. She loved us so deeply- and would never hesitate to say so. She once flew out to Mexico to take care of us after we got our wisdom teeth removed- something I'll never forget and be eternally grateful for.

I will miss her zest for life- she would always encourage us to follow our passions and look for adventure- that being the last thing I promised her.

Thank you for taking me to New York. For taking me white water rafting, especially after driving for countless hours and being exhausted. Thank you for cooking me meals and welcoming me into your family.

And thank you for being my Mother in Law. May you shine brightly forever.

This past weekend was a blur. Still recovering, and still plenty more to do, BUT-We had a wonderful time seeing our family and friends, as they came together to celebrate our union. Honestly overwhelmed by the care and affection everyone has for us, and can't state enough how much we love you all.

What a hike! The weather got a bit dodgy near the summit and the rain made things slippery. My foot was unhappy with me for a while, but I made it 😭 It took hours, but we had a good time. ❤️

Now to ice my ankle and take some ibuprofen. 😅

For the last 8 years, we've been going to self defense classes at Jackson Mann, mainly as a form of exercise and conditioning, but also learning life skills. Punches, kicks, joint locks, and bruises-but fun nonetheless. Along the way, we made life long friends.

Today was our last day. They're gonna tear down the building, and we'll be without a workout space for a little while. But we'll figure it out and come back. Thank you for the memories, Jackson Mann. ☯️❤️

A year ago, amidst all the chaos and struggle going on in our lives, something wonderful happened. I married my best friend.

It's been a long time coming, and if I'm being completely honest, most folks kinda already assumed we were married, or at least we were married in their minds.

But it's official now. A year in, and I still feel incredibly lucky. I'm really happy to be with someone as kind, thoughtful, and funny as Corey. I can't imagine where I'd be without her.

Carpal tunnel release surgery 2/2 complete! Everything went well, and the staff at St. Elizabeth's was great as always. Things went quicker this time around, and hopefully this is the last surgery.

It's been scary as an artist to face the idea of not being able to draw, or even use my hands, but I'm confident in returning to normal. Take care of your arms, folks. Be sure to stretch and take breaks, lol.

So this is my first comic in God knows how long. I did a lot of experimenting with shape language, panel sizes, and screentone, which I've never really used before, so I MIGHT have gone a little overboard with them. I dunno.

The parts were a little tricky to take off and assemble, but I'm pretty happy with the results. I would love to eventually own all the turtles (they've only made Leo and Mikey so far) but for now, just Mikey is fine. It'll be easier on my wallet and apartment space.😅😭

Our last full day in Iceland. Started off the day at a Goat farm with lots of adorable goats... then a waterfall, and then finally seeing some real lava!
